biography

DulceSky, the American dream-rock, shoegazer-influenced band with Chilean roots stands out from the crowd by staying true to its vision of creating sonically-involving, lyrically thought-provoking, memorable music that stands the test of time’s passing stylistic fads. The long-running band has steadily and surely built up an accomplished discography and devoted following since its inception in 2002 by founder and frontman Oliver Valenzuela.

DulceSky’s distinctive, dynamic, melodic dream-rock transports the listener through vast panoramas of sound. Gloriously ringing to gritty guitar lines from Oliver and Brett Kocherhans sweep to the expansive skies above while propulsive bass from Oliver’s brother Daniel Valenzuela and kinetic drum-work from Mitchell Razon plunge into the deep oceans below. Oliver sings in a mellifluous, contemplative tone that contrasts with and provides a respite from the dramatic guitar and drum turmoil.

Oliver’s dream of forming a band and creating majestic, compelling music in the grand tradition of classic, guitar-driven shoegaze bands of the 1990s started when he and his brother Daniel were growing up in Santiago, Chile. It took years of hard work, a move to the U.S., learning the English language, and putting the band together to realize his dream.

DulceSky has released three EPs, two albums (debut “Lands” and follow-up “Invisible Empire”), and a demos/rarities compilation. The band formed a fruitful partnership with producer Matt Winegar (Primus, Faith No More, Coheed and Cambria) who guided the band members through the production of their two albums. “Lands” captivates with magnetic guitar lines and electronic noise, stormy drum tempos, dreamy, yet melancholic vocals, and insightful lyrics. Ambitious sophomore concept album “Invisible Empire” invigorates with churning, hard-edged guitars, high-powered drums and bass undertow, and incisive, relevant lyrics sung with a rich, but urgent intonation. Over the years, DulceSky has received an outpouring of national and international attention and accolades for its recordings.

After going on occasional hiatus between 2012 and 2014 due to familial obligations and other factors, Oliver, Daniel, Mitchell, and Brett have reconnected and, with reenergized focus, they are looking forward to the future and the infinite possibilities that can exist in their music.
